Wood & Clad-Wood Windows: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between wood and aluminum-clad wood windows?

Solid wood windows are timber inside and out and need periodic exterior refinishing. Aluminum-clad wood windows add an aluminum shell to the exterior, which protects the timber from weather and reduces maintenance, while keeping a natural timber interior.

Which wood species can I choose?

Our wood ranges use pine, larch, red oak including imported North American red oak, white oak and teak, with other species on request. Pine and larch are economical; oak and teak are denser and premium. Species mainly affects appearance, stability and cost.

Are wood windows suitable for cold climates?

Yes. Timber conducts far less heat than aluminum, so wood and clad wood frames keep interior surfaces warm and reduce condensation. Combined with Low-E double or triple insulating glass, they suit cold climates. Confirm whole-unit ratings against your local energy code.

How are wood windows protected during shipping?

Windows are factory finished, wrapped in protective layers and packed in plywood crates to limit humidity and handling damage in transit. On site, store units dry and ventilated, and protect them from moisture generated by wet trades such as plastering.
